National Association of Real-estate Inspection & Evaluation Services (NARIES) - Real Estate Directory

The National Association of Real-Estate Inspection & Evaluation Services (NARIESä) has been established for the benefit of consumers who use building inspection services, building inspectors, appraisers and related real estate professionals. The association’s goal is to advance the knowledge about the inspection business through public information, training, and related business opportunities. The objective is to organize its professionals under one association and provide knowledge to consumers exposing them to the business of building inspection and appraising through various means of communication. The mission is to develop a high level of professional practice by its members through the use of Standards of Practice and a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for all of its members and educate the public about their use.The website provides the consumer opportunities to participate in forums and obtain valuable information directly from the site about the association, its activities, various articles, a huge array of information and materials either through the site or from many and numerous links all over the world about home improvement, home inspection and the examination and inspection of sites and buildings. The association provides building inspection training and education for Building Inspectors and Appraisers through either classroom or correspondence training programs. These training programs may advance a member to a more developed level of qualification to participate in the organizations structure, local chapter representation and committees. These levels are dependent on the Member Classification. Certification is available for those who wish to become Executive Members. The association has a set of Standards of Practice which are organized around an inspection format. The document includes the following sections: Introduction, Purpose, Scope, Definitions, Professional Obligations, Opinions, Inspection Standards of Practice, Required Format for Examinations and Inspections, General Limitations, Exclusions, Glossary, Departure Provisions and Enforcement. The Association has a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct for Members which are organized around an obligation with duties. The document includes the following sections: Preamble, Duties in general, Duties to the public, Duties to the client, Duties to the profession, and Duties to colleagues. Membership benefits can be found under the Member Classifications section where it can be found that the more advanced a member is, the more they have invested in the organization. They subscribe to the idea that the service is first an inspection and communication service which can be learned and refined through training and professional practice as a professional service provider. An executive member should be able to provide a written narrative opinion if they were asked to provide it. The Association provides a continuing education program for Appraisers which is at this time approved in a few states. The title of the course is THE EXAMINATION AND INSPECTION OF SITES AND BUILDINGS FOR APPRAISERS. This is a 14-16 hour training program for continuing education. Members become eligible for increasingly more responsible roles in the association and are eligible for contracting as time and money permits.
